Methodology
i-def.systems is a civilian self-defence system for real emergency situations – for the moment when decisions made under stress determine safety, injury or survival. No show, no ritualised routines. Just a small number of robust principles that work under pressure.
I defend!
At its core is the transformation from passive object to active, acting subject: I defend. Self-defence does not begin with a technique, but with the inner decision not to become a victim without resistance.
“Fear has its use but cowardice has none.” — Mahatma Gandhi
Fear is a signal. Giving up is not an option.
Core Principles
i-def.systems is built on clear, testable principles. Techniques are merely tools that follow those principles:
- Principles before techniques: Structure determines the outcome, not form. A small number of core mechanisms replaces countless “techniques”.
- From object to subject: Self-defence means regaining control over your own space and your own actions.
- Simplicity under stress: Anything that cannot be accessed under adrenaline, tunnel vision and time pressure is worthless.
- Function before style: Relevance before appearance. Anything that does not work in a real emergency is removed.
- Civilian, responsible and realistic: Designed around real assaults, legal boundaries and what ordinary people can actually achieve in an emergency.
“A man can be destroyed but not defeated.” — Ernest Hemingway
Perseverance is not a style. It is a principle.
Training Methods
The training reflects what actually happens physically and mentally in critical moments:
- Structured fundamentals: Positioning, methods of applying pressure, releases and transitions. Clear, gross-motor and repeatable.
- Stress and scenario training: Gradually increasing intensity, verbal aggression, surprise and multiple simultaneous stimuli.
- Principle-based drills: One idea, many applications. The objective is an automatic response.
- Mental structure: Breathing, focus, decision-making patterns (“if – then”) and post-scenario review.
- Reality filter: No romantic ideas about fighting. No competition rules. Only what is relevant to civilians.
The objective is not to create a “fighter profile”, but to develop the ability to act in real emergencies – even without previous experience.
Why This Training Structure Works
In real conflicts, knowledge alone is not decisive. What matters is whether it remains accessible under stress. Our training structure is therefore designed to give participants a shared foundation of mindset, principles and an understanding of stress before intensity, speed and chaos are systematically increased.
In the next stage, the training becomes more concentrated. In small, carefully matched groups, fundamentals can be stabilised more quickly, mistakes corrected more precisely and pressure introduced in a controlled manner. Only once this foundation is secure is it tested under greater intensity and unpredictability. A system that works only in a controlled environment is worthless in an emergency.
This creates a clear learning path: from understanding to acting, from practice to resilience and finally to the ability to remain functional even in confusing and unpredictable situations.
Objectives
i-def.systems is designed for civilians living ordinary lives. Its objectives are clear:
- Survive, escape and regain control.
- Develop a mindset of resistance and survival: The inner decision not to remain defenceless.
- Recognise and avoid danger earlier: Awareness, behaviour and distance – before an attack begins.
- Plans of action instead of hope: Prepared options rather than wishful thinking.
Participants should develop stable mental and physical strength that protects them in an emergency. Because when that moment comes, only one thing matters: I defend!
